According to Bounce's TikTok Travel 2022 index, Dubai has been ranked as the most popular travel destination in the world.
Dubai has emerged as the most viewed destination on TikTok, a vastly popular social media platform, with 82 billion views on the videos with the hashtag #Dubai.
Dubai rose in the rankings to first place after ranking second to New York City in last year's index, making significant progress and showing the extent of Dubai's popularity.
The number of tourists in Dubai last year was about 7.28 million, up 32 percent. In addition, Dubai has received 6.17 million international visitors during the first five months of 2022.
The Government of Dubai's successful handling of the COVID-19 pandemic has led to a strong recovery in tourism and travel. On the other hand, Dubai has attracted the highest global volume of foreign direct investment in the tourism sector in 2021, about AED 6.4 billion, distributed across 30 projects.
"Synonymous with wealth and luxury, Dubai has become one of the most sought-after destinations for holidaymakers who want to soak up the sun in style. This ultra-modern city is home to some of the world's most astounding architecture, such as the tallest building on Earth, the Burj Khalifa," says the Bounce index.
The Bounce study covered the views received by 140 different cities on TikTok, where Dubai was ranked first and the UAE capital Abu Dhabi was ranked 22nd with 8.6 billion views.
Second-placed New York City attracted 59.5 billion views on TikTok, and third-placed London received 36.8 billion views, surpassing Istanbul.
Other destinations most viewed on TikTok are:
- Istanbul, with 34 billion
- Paris, with 33 billion
- Miami, with 24.6 billion
- Los Angeles, with 20.8 billion
- Chicago, with 17.9 billion
- Toronto, with 17.1 billion
- Madrid, with 16 billion
